Automation-compatible mail will qualify for discounts. Automation compatible mail has addresses that are machine printed in a non-script font, and address panels (OCR Read Area) free of designs. A diagram of the OCR Read Area is provided here for your convenience.
Discounts may not be available for handwritten addresses and non-machine readable (OCR compatible) mail. The following are examples of type styles that are OCR readable:
All domestic First Class flats weighing under 13 oz. and less than 1/4" thick are sent at the Discounted Flat rate.
All international mail weighing over 13 oz. must have a customs tag, form 2976A.
Stamped Mail Weighing over 13 ounces must be presented to the U.S. Post Office by the individual mailer.
